New regulations forbade the church from using their galleries without an increase in the height of the parapet.
The problem was solved by casting special brackets in bronze, and fitting brass rails to the existing woodwork. The work was rather sweetly accompanied by rehearsals for the Christmas play. The ladies of the church insisted that the brass be left without lacquer, so it can be regularly polished.
