Archaeologists from the Museum of London, working in two Roman wells in Gresham Street in London, uncovered the well preserved remains of an iron and timber endless chain pump.
We were asked to deduce the methods used by the Roman smiths, and to produce, by the same methods, a new chain, in wrought iron, for a full scale replica of the pumping machine. The project was the subject of a Channel 4 Time Team programme.
