As specialist metalworkers, Chris Topp & Co operate a hot rolling mill, a rare piece of equipment which enables us to offer a unique service whereby any dimension of material, be it sheet, flat or square bar can be readily obtained.

Further we have developed a method of hot rolling mouldings and special sections, which can be compared with the joiner’s spindle moulder for producing handrails and ornamental mouldings. Thus we are not restricted by the sections of metal available off the shelf, but can design and make many different, bespoke sections for our own work and for others. Our tooling is simple, and not costly, so that we can offer even relatively small runs of handrail, and other mouldings at a competitive price. In this way we were able to offer a unique handrail in wrought iron for the stairs to the Whispering Gallery in St Paul’s Cathedral. The materials we can roll include wrought iron, mild steel, pure iron, bronze, copper and stainless steel. We are also able to offer a hire rolling service, whereby we will hot roll our customer’s own materials for example, we hire roll pure iron for sacrificial anodes, and antique copper for specialist furniture makers.

We are looking to buy at well over the current scrap value any old iron anchor chain, anchors, gas holder, tie bars, iron bridges and even old iron railings are of interest. Normally we can tell if it is iron from a photograph but we will come and check it on site or you can send a sample, whichever is easiest for you.
