Iron Pillar of Delhi The pillar is 24ft high and is 16.5 inches in diameter. Historians differ on whether it was built by Samrat (Emperor) Ashoka who ruled around 280 B.C, and is also known by his name (Ashokan Pillar) or, more likely, in the Gupta Period 300-500AD. This simple pillar made of wrought iron, has not rusted in all these years providing a mysterious insight to the developed metallurgical skills in that period.
