The sign has been designed by local resident Brian Webb, of Webb & Webb Design, who took on the challenge of designing a sign with a difference. The 3.5 metre high sign was inspired by the sea, the fishing industry, the buildings and by the fine architectural ironware to be found in the town.
In an open competition the Town Council chose us to manufacture the sign, as our company specialises in historic and modern iron work and has been responsible for some big public art projects across the UK.
Suffolk has a rich tradition in blacksmith made signs and the plan from the earliest design ideas was to make an iron sign. For a sign of this size and complexity and to meet the budget, a high tech solution was needed. A high pressure water-jet which can cut with pencil line precision was used.
