Built for the new extension to Buckingham Palace, which now houses the Queen’s Gallery, this balustrade was designed by prominent London architect John Simpson and executed in cast bronze and mild steel by Chris Topp & Co Ltd. The style is unrestrainedly classical with the use of steel ropes to comply with British building regulations. Finished in natural bronze and gold leaf, the rope motif follows through into the hardwood handrails above the newels.
